TO BE OR NOT TO BE -- ESSERE O NON ESSERE

You'd think that with all the things I have to do to get XMAS going I wouldn't have time to keep my nose in the air to watch birds. WRONG! I always keep my nose in the air to watch birds. They fascinate me. I keep wondering what it would be like to be able to kick off the ground and sail into the sky...my therapist would love to work with me on that one. In any case I'm not writing about being or not being a bird. I'm not thinking about having or not having wings. My problem at the moment is even bigger....the other day I was hanging around in town after a coffee at my favorite coffee-bar(no Starbucks in my area of the boot-shaped peninsula) and I heard some seagulls screeching overhead. At that point, as all good floridians know, you must never, ever look up (do I have to explain why?) when gulls are overhead. Obviously I've lived in the boot-shaped peninsula long enough to have forgotten all my native-tongue lessons about seagulls. And besides, the screeching was coming from too nearby. So I looked up and saw - GET THIS....4 huge seagulls perched on the overhead wires of some utility like 4 normal city pidgeons. A moment of extremely profound existential crisis for me....4 seagulls balancing deftly on their huge flipper feet on a little utility wire while discussing whatever it is that 4 seagulls discuss while balancing deftly on their huge flipper feet at 4 in the afternoon. Who said that seagulls only live near the sea? Who said that seagulls only walk on sand....and if I was having an existential crisis seeing them up there on that wire I can't imagine what the devil they imagine they are...
