If you haven't already gone to see the movie...get moving. Yesterday afternoon at 4:30 I was catapulted into the past where I lived 2.5 hours of immersion in history. A magnificent 2.5 hours which managed to fly by without my realising how quickly it passed. Spielberg surpassed himself in this film because it was like theater only bigger, epic in which you relive the entire period of Lincoln's greatest moment of glory - the passing of the 13th ammendment of the constitution and the end of the Civil War. Since I have been living in Italy all these years and have been literally out of contact with the day-to-day workings of American government it gave me the opportunity to repass all the civics courses I took when I was a youngster. It showed to perfection what the presidency is all about. Day-Lewis WAS Lincoln...the aura around him WAS Lincoln...his expressions and voice WERE probably LINCOLN....and the best part was that I went with some Italian friends who were overwhelmed by the force of the film.
Italy has a very peculiar political situation - pretty sure you all have read some of the ridiculous which happens here. LINCOLN showed everyone in the cinema what real politics are. How real democracy works and what it means to be a government FOR the people of the nation...if only Italy could be like what was shown in the film........

Se non siete ancora andati vedere LINCOLN...andate e di corsa.Ieri pomeriggio approfittando del prezzo ribassato di Martedi sono stata incantata da Daniel Day-Lewis nella sua interpretazione di Lincoln. 2.5 ore magnifici nella quale Spielberg si è sorpassato perche era teatro fatto cinema, epica nel senso del cinema al suo meglio. Nella quale rivivi intero periodo storico Lincolniano al suo momento piu importante - il passaggio in nella camera del 13esimo ammendamento della costituzione americana e la fine della guerra civile. Tutte passaggi storici studiati da giovane e insegnato da professoressa di scienze sociali nelle scuole in USA. Tutto un ripasso visivo e emotivo del momento clue per la libertà degli schiavi negli Stati Uniti...
Per noi che viviamo in Italia importantissimo vedere questo film per capire il funzionamento del federalismo e il fatto del potere presidenziale. Due discorsi prenunciati da Day-Lewis completano questo. Però una piccola phrase detto da lui ve lo devo dire...era mentre cercava di convincere una persona nel governo del perche votare SI' per questo ammendamento. Lo scrivo come me lo ricordo...'non ti chiedo di votare sì per questo ammendamento per noi, ne per i milioni di neri schiavi, ne per oggi ma per il futuro...per quelli che vengono dopo di noi'....e con questo chiudo.
Il governo per la gente...noi gente siamo il governo...siamo la nazione...e se VOGLIAMO il futuro, UN futuro....il giorno delle elezioni dobbiamo pensare con responsabilità, con maturità non guardando oggi, non guardando adesso, non il momento ma chi verrà dopo di noi e quello che lasciamo a loro.....
