Waiting for Winter - Aspettando Inverno

I remember when you had to teach children the names of the 4, read that FOUR, seasons. In those days there were four. In fact, even now kids learn the names of the seasons without knowing that those days are long over. We've literally gone from summer to fall without having passed through Winter. Or rather, Winter is officially in season but the weather has decided to give us Fall temperatures and lots of rain since this morning. Whatever happened to Winter. A meteoman here in Italy said that there is a 'vortex' over the North Pole which is whipping up the air up there and causing the cold to remain up North. Ok says yours truly. I love the medium temperatures but honestly it would be really good for all of us to have real Winter. Real Winter means white, means trees without leaves(here in the Western panhandle of the boot-shaped peninsula they're still attached to the oaks and various) and COLD. Remember what cold is? Not just the right nozzle of the shower or the sink. It's that wonderful chilly air that bites your nose and nips your lips. Makes your breath look like a steam engine in action and generally makes you want to drink nothing but hot chocolate with marshmallows in it and sit with your back attached to a wood-burning stove enjoying the waves of heat which crawl up from the base of your spine. So while waiting for Winter I'm keeping track of the passing days and was enjoying the afternoons of sun on the West Portico with a great book, a cup of hot coffee and getting a tan...until today...when the meteomen said it was gonna rain, then snow, then snow some more and get Siberian cold which still hasn't happened but it's early right...still waiting for Winter guys....get back to you tomorrow.
