NORTH WINDS - TRAMONTANA

So many years ago I sort of hate to remember there was an incredibly beautiful song about a wind called Maraia..broadway show...PAINT YOUR WAGON. Which reminds me of Decembers past when my family would leave the heat of Florida and go to the CITY for opening season. But that's another story...It was an impetuous wind which blew over everything. Gave everyone chills and sent them running for cover....sort of like the TRAMONTANA or NORTHWIND which has been blowing forever(actually only 2 days -here in the panhandle of the boot-shaped peninsula we say the wind blows itself out in 3 days -so only one to go). It makes the olive trees bow low towards France which usually brings BAD weather. The temperature has dropped quite a bit from the wind chill factor. Not so wonderful outside but the sun has been shining just to remind us that it's there...can't ask for more!

Tanti anni fa c'era una canzone che parlava di un vento chiamato Maraia da BROADWAY un bellissimo spettacolo chiamato PAINT YOUR WAGON...quanti ricordi di viaggi alla grande Mela durante stagione apertura...ma questo è un altra storia.

Un vento che ti faceva scattare in casa e raffredava il mondo intorno. Chissà? Ma questo vento che soffia intorno a ponente e il portico da due giorni è freddo. Proprio una tramontana intramontabile. Durerà ancora un giorno. Da noi dicono che il vento infuria per tre giorni e sono gia due che ullula...vabbè il sole oggi ha brillato anche se non ha scaldato molto. Promettendo tempi ossia temperature migliore...non potremo chiedere altro!

And so Winter is here. The pictures say it all...of course we only got a good sprinkling. Which is one of the reasons I love living here...We ain't got city fun nor city activities but we sure do have a great climate!

E così come vedete Inverno finalmente è arrivato. Le foto lo dicono lungo...certamente mica come il resto della penisola. Noi a ponente siamo sempre diversi fortunatamente. Uno dei motivi perche amo vivere qui....non siamo una città con tanti divertimenti ne attività speciali ma abbiamo un clima invidiabile!

Arrivato Inverno - Winter's HERE

This photo was taken by a friend of mine who is a professional photographer...she takes marvelous photos and I must admit that robbing this one was probably the most clever thing I've done today. Winter has arrived. Just in case you were wondering. The temps are really cold. We're now at 2°C(that's 35.6°F). I'd say pretty cold. Of course, from inside it isn't bad at all. Logically that's with the wood stove chugging nicely in the kitchen and the gas heaters adding their help in the rest of the house where the cast-iron radiators(the best for my money) are boiling hot. Wind-chill should be abou -5 cus as you can see from Paola Aliprandi's photo the waves are kicking up pretty high. It's also raining. Pelting down icey bits of rain which literally cut into your skin. So what to do on a day like today? Stay indoors? Heck no! At 3:30 I'm heading for the bookshop where I will pick up a couple of reads and THEN, only then, head home to the warmth of that stove and the heat crawling up my lower spine....

Spero che non ho fatto qualcosa di illegale..comunque come vedete ce un vento fortissimo che sta facendo sì che il mare rimbalza contro i moli e la pioggia gelida viene sferzata verso terra come una frusta. Ti taglia la faccia tanto che è forte e gelida vento e pioggia. Temperature sono a 2°C che vuol dire Inverno è arrivata e con cattiveria. Comunque credo che ce l'avremo un po meno cattivo che zona Pianura Padana dove ce già una coltre di neve pesante. Dicono che qui le temperature scenderanno molto sotto lo 0° ma dopotutto siamo in Inverno ormai. Non aspetto più Inverno. Ma stare dentro oggi non se ne parla. Una commissione di portatrice di verdure dal amica che ha libreria, un cappuccino bollente con biscotto, comprare due libri nuovi e poi prometto a me stessa che la schiena rimarrà attaccata alla stufa per il resto del pom...dopotutto Inverno è alle porte e sta bussando forte

Autumn - Autunno

ok, so it's a big foto of chestnuts. They were big chestnuts. They're baking in the oven. They'll be crispy and hot in about an hour. I'll eat lots of them. I'll pretend it's Autumn. My tummy will be happy. I'll get gas....my family will be less happy. Tomorrow is another day - in autumn.

Ok sembra che ho incollato un enorme foto di castagne arrostiti. In fatti quelli che stanno cuocendo nel forno sono enorme. Stanno cuocendo affinche diventano croccante e bollente - diciamo un oretta. I mangerò tante castagne. Farò finta che sia Autunno. Il mio 'tomaco sarà felice. Avro flattulenza....la famiglia sarà meno felice della cosa. Domani è un altro giorno - di autunno!
