A while ago a friend gave me a wonderfully green and happy spatifilo which is now living in the unused marble mortar which I got from my mother-in-law when she passed away. The plant is in the corner of the kitchen taking up,obviously, an entire 40cm section of the counter space. Honestly it is so beautiful that I really don't want to move it. Besides, it is happy and making flowers which, instead of white, are now a beautiful leaf green - can't have everything. The link below is a spatifilo con fiori bianchi...boohoo
Tempo fa un amica mi ha dato una bellissima verde e felice spartifilo che vive nel mortaio di marmo presa da mia suocera alla sua departita. La pianta è posato nel angolo del bancone della cucina togliendo, ovviamente, almeno 40cm di spazio. Però onestamente è talmente bella che non vorrei spostarla. LINCOLN the film

If you haven't already gone to see the movie...get moving. Yesterday afternoon at 4:30 I was catapulted into the past where I lived 2.5 hours of immersion in history. A magnificent 2.5 hours which managed to fly by without my realising how quickly it passed. Spielberg surpassed himself in this film because it was like theater only bigger, epic in which you relive the entire period of Lincoln's greatest moment of glory - the passing of the 13th ammendment of the constitution and the end of the Civil War. Since I have been living in Italy all these years and have been literally out of contact with the day-to-day workings of American government it gave me the opportunity to repass all the civics courses I took when I was a youngster. It showed to perfection what the presidency is all about. Day-Lewis WAS Lincoln...the aura around him WAS Lincoln...his expressions and voice WERE probably LINCOLN....and the best part was that I went with some Italian friends who were overwhelmed by the force of the film.
Italy has a very peculiar political situation - pretty sure you all have read some of the ridiculous which happens here. LINCOLN showed everyone in the cinema what real politics are. How real democracy works and what it means to be a government FOR the people of the nation...if only Italy could be like what was shown in the film........

Se non siete ancora andati vedere LINCOLN...andate e di corsa.Ieri pomeriggio approfittando del prezzo ribassato di Martedi sono stata incantata da Daniel Day-Lewis nella sua interpretazione di Lincoln. 2.5 ore magnifici nella quale Spielberg si è sorpassato perche era teatro fatto cinema, epica nel senso del cinema al suo meglio. Nella quale rivivi intero periodo storico Lincolniano al suo momento piu importante - il passaggio in nella camera del 13esimo ammendamento della costituzione americana e la fine della guerra civile. Tutte passaggi storici studiati da giovane e insegnato da professoressa di scienze sociali nelle scuole in USA. Tutto un ripasso visivo e emotivo del momento clue per la libertà degli schiavi negli Stati Uniti...
Per noi che viviamo in Italia importantissimo vedere questo film per capire il funzionamento del federalismo e il fatto del potere presidenziale. Due discorsi prenunciati da Day-Lewis completano questo. Però una piccola phrase detto da lui ve lo devo dire...era mentre cercava di convincere una persona nel governo del perche votare SI' per questo ammendamento. Lo scrivo come me lo ricordo...'non ti chiedo di votare sì per questo ammendamento per noi, ne per i milioni di neri schiavi, ne per oggi ma per il futuro...per quelli che vengono dopo di noi'....e con questo chiudo.
Il governo per la gente...noi gente siamo il governo...siamo la nazione...e se VOGLIAMO il futuro, UN futuro....il giorno delle elezioni dobbiamo pensare con responsabilità, con maturità non guardando oggi, non guardando adesso, non il momento ma chi verrà dopo di noi e quello che lasciamo a loro.....

BANANA YES BANANA NO
Banana yes, banana no - on the table were 4 nice ripe bananas when I left the house this morning. Wonderful thought - banana yoghurt and jam for breakfast later when I return. Banana no - or rather - banana where? So when bananas or any other fruit or food is missing where do you look? On the beaglcuda's bed...yup...she ate 2.5 bananas skin and all leaving the rest sort of munched upon...for break...fast yoghurt and jam.
BANANA Sì - banana no? - sul tavolo alla partenza questa mattina 4 banane mature che dovevano essere, almeno 1, la mia colazione con yoghurt e confettura percocca ananas. Che pensiero consolante una colazione sana nutriente. Tornata a casa Banane NO, ossia DOVE? e ovviamente quando manca cibaria in questo luogo il primo posto disponibile di ricerca è il lettino del beaglcuda...sì, ha mangiato 2.5 banane intere buccia e tutto lasciando un masticato mucchio del resto sul letto...per colazione questa mattina ho avuto yoghurt e confettura di percocche e ananas...

Beyond Murphy's Law - Oltre la Legge di Murphy
Lots of years ago when someone wrote that book Murphy's Law they were thinking about me. Or rather they were thinking about us in this house, home, casa. You'd think that the author had invented them all. Those laws were iron-clad and true. But the one that he forgot is the lay which goes beyond Murphy...it sort of sounds like this:
Saturday morning you start preparing for a luncheon for 6 people Sunday. Cook, clean the kitchen, cook some more and clean the kitchen repeating the same theme at least 6 hours worth. You go out for a coffe3 in the afternoon and finish shopping for Sunday. Return home and find your HUBBY busily at work with a hammer and screw-driver. He is taking a tube out of the hole in the wall over the stove 'so that the humidity and pot vapour will be whisked out of the kitchen and into the air outside'. Lovely idea I think but then I realise that we're talking about drilling a fan into and onto the wall, making plastic bits and such all over the floor near the stove etcetcetcetcetc.....and it is already let's say LATE! So beyond Murphy's law there is the final adjunct of an equation which says
If you have an important luncheon on Sunday...you can bet that Saturday afternoon LATE someone will have to create havoc in your kitchen...but then I must admit that the exhaust fan has helped the humidity problem in the kitchen and the windows no longer get fogged...and it only took me about 40 minutes to clean...but then if you consider the beginning of the day and the fact that I had moved our bed into another bedroom.....but that's another story and has nothing to do with Beyond Murphy's Law.
Tanti anni fa un autore ha speso un sacco di tempo scrivendo un libro che si chiama Murphy's Law e lui, poverino, ha lavorato pensando di averle pensato tutte. Invece, poverino non ha potuto mica prendere in considerazione tutte le case del mondo, specialmente non la mia di casa tanto piu che vivendo con un ex direttore di macchina di navi di crociera ce un mancante desiderio di trapanare, aggiustare, mettere in ordine che sembra essere proprio necessario...specialmente nei momenti meno indesiderati...così Sabato era giornata di lavoro in cucina cucinando per un pranzo con 6 persone di Domenica. Logicamente cucini, pulisci, cucina pulisci e rimani sempre in ordine delle idee che dopo tante ore riesci a riposarti e scappare un paio di ore per quel caffe nel tuo bar preferito. Così fu. Io scappai e dopo un paio di ore di relax torno a casa per trovare il marito in cima ad una scala mentre lavorava di lena con martello e cacciavite per spostare un tubo in un buco fatto con un carottatore(o giu di li attrezzo) che doveva servire per mettere un estrattore elettrico che toglie umidità e vapore dalla cucina. Finenedolo in breve tra trappano, martello, scala e seghetto per rifilare l'estrattore perche non la cassetta non stava nel angolo(ti pareva) ho sorbito un altro oretta di lavoro(veramente solo 45 minuti + o meno) per pulire...constatando che la legge di Murphy in questione era mancante nel elenco antico...ed è questo:
Se avete un importante pranzo Domenica mezzogiorno e arriverano almeno 6 ospiti state tranquille che al pomeriggio TARDI di SABATO qualcuno creerà CASINO in cucina causandoti non pochi lavori in piu di pulizia...però onestamente l'estrattore funziona benissimo e a parte il fatto che al mattino prima di iniziare il lavoro in cucina avevo spostato il nostro letto in un altra camera da letto...ma dai quello è un altra storia e ha niente da fare con OLTRE LA LEGGE DI MURPHY

COMFORTABLE SEATING POSTI COMODI
In our home there are 4 comfortable places to sit
1 - a couch which is about 2.70 meters long
2 - a lounge chair which has a coverlet in wool to keep you warm
3 - a smaller couch which is a two-seater - or love-seat if you prefer that name
4 - an IKEA armchair which has a molded back holding wonderfully almost embracing feeling
all of which are occupied by
in number 1 taking up at least 2 meters - an extra long stretched out beagle
in number two a sleeping calico cat - and you know you always let sleeping cats lay(lie?)
in number three no one at the moment because the beagle is on number one and the cat is on number 2
and finally the IKEA armchair is occupied permanently by the mixed breed belgian shepherd/setter who decided that the moment the armchair was set up and constructed perfectly she would have to try it out for yours truly (me) who had bought the chair for her aching back but to this day has yet to sit in it since the mixed breed belgian shepherd/setter has permanently occupied it...
which leaves yours truly perched on a little black IKEA stool which sort of looks like a milking stool only with 4 legs instead of two...which has fortunately helped me to stregthen my back muscles since I do have to keep them tight and firm in order not to slouch causing pain...
but wouldn't it be wonderful to have the possibility, just every once-in-a-while to possess some comfortable seating?
In casa nostra ci sono 4 posti comodi dove uno/a potrebbe mettersi al proprio agio
1 - un divano letto di 2.70metri
2 - uno sdraio con sopra un plaid di lana come scaldino
3 - un piccolo divanetto tipo love seat a due posti
4 - una poltrona IKEA ergonomico che non solo è comodo ma ti abbraccia mentre ti siedi dentro
tutti quali occupati da
numero UNO da un beagle allungato piu o meno 2 metri lasciando solo 70cm liberi
numero due un gatto acciambellato e si sa che gatti che dormono non pigliano pesci e tu non pigli posto
numero tre onestamente nessuno ancora perche i due occupanti del numero 1 e 2 sono nei posti qui sopra
numero 4 un lupo belga/setter combo che appena avevi costruito la poltrona IKEA ergonomica ha deciso provarla assicurando che era ben salda e sicura e dopo di che non l'ha mollata per mezzo secondo provando sicuramente che
è molto difficile trovare un posto comodo in questa casa....mi chiedo sempre però come fanno ad avere tutti quei posti comodi a ROMA?
