Sauteed peppers - Peperoni soffriti

I love PEPPERS...especially cut into squares, thrown into a scalding hot skillet in which I've rolled around a bit of virgin olive oil (ours) and kosher salt...they hit the pan running. They sizzle and snap and get really dark crunchy looking spots on them and just when you'd think it's time to turn off the fire you remember that you had to add some extra well-aged cider vingar, fresh pressed garlic and a couple of teaspoons of that wonderful minced basil you put into the freezer last Summer...of course if you're really feeling perky you could add a teaspoon of dark brown sugar and let them caramel. But this time I was in a hurry....just snarfed them up as is....PS: even the peppers were put into the deep freeze last summer. Cleaned with a damp towel, cut into halves(to fill) or strips to stir-fry or chunks(like above) for whatever makes your heartbeat...

ADORO peperoni in qualsiasi salsa - agrodolci, fritti, in sughi, crudi.

in case anyone wants to know...that white light in the middle of the photo is the full moon. The full moon which I saw from the West Portico the other night. It was surrounded by a hazy white cloudy skirt which sort of twirled out around it. No stars. Only that full-faced white light shining into the night like some enormous beacon on the sea....living in the country is marvelous!

Sunset from the WEST PORTICO - TRAMONTA dal Portico a ponente

First thing I'm trying to figure out is how the devil the photo got 'cut' crooked on my Office Picture Manager...or maybe I just see it crooked and it's not crooked in the post. In any case these were the colors of sunset yesterday....no comment!

Dog's Life - Vita da cane

Bet you've heard the espression 'position is everything in life'...or if not that expression something similar. Of course, it's a dog's life is even better when you consider that the protagonists of the position is everything in life are two hundts who wouldn't like anything better than to sit by the woodburning stove all Winter long enjoying the warm...and logically exploiting the strategical position of said stove in the kitchen where the probabilities of edibles falling on the floor are much better than sitting or laying on the portico terrace watching the world inside from outdoors...and while you're at it lady they're saying....have a look at your furry kids out here in the cold(it was only 60°) while you're in there by that stove eating that Fuji apple and enjoying a good read. Ok, so we'd only help you eat the apple....

Diciamo 14.5° a mezzodì.

Corsica floating up out of the Med off the coast where the WEST PORTICO looks out onto the sea. The clouds seem like enormous waves of fuscia as they flow towards France. There are 180km of sea between our beaches and Corsica but in the Winter early morning and late evening at sunset(as in this picture) you can see the island so well that even the snow in he mountains is visible. Now you can understand why I love living here...or rather, one of the reasons why...

Infinite possibilities - Infinte possibilita

Amos Oz wrote in his book LOVE and DARKNESS that he had read a book which permitted him to become an author. He had always thought that to become an author you had to have had tremendously interesting worldly experiences in far off places etc etc. The fact is that each one of us, in his or her little universe, is the possible author of incredibly interesting stories. Each of us is the author of a life or, if one wishes, infinite possibilities of lives....it got me to thinking...how many of you have ever sat down and wondered what you life would have been like if on THAT particular day or in THAT particular moment you had made a different decision than the one you made?! I'll give you an example:

late 1960's(was 16 or so)...Costa Rica...vacation in the home of some dear friends who hosted me for 2 months...learned the language...met several wonderful guys one of whom I really adored...year later, same guy, 'marry me?'....said no, came home and then sat and wondered if I had made the right decision no, I didn't love him, just adored him...he was terribly rich - coffee plantations, land with animals and hacienda, whole ball of wax...years later I saw the friends who had hosted me and they told me that he had married a couple of years after I had said no...he had grown fat and bald...still had the coffee plantations and the land with animals and hacienda...several kids...never moved even to take a vacation...gee...

see what I'm getting at? Each one of us is a story waiting to be unfolded...I just wish I had Oz's talent!

capite dove voglio arrivare?

photos yes photos no - photos si photos no

All right! My pc went to the doctor and had a complete overhaul. Which means that I had to replace CHROME since I'm no longer able to use Google as home page etc. All right! When my pc was brought home(by me cus not even the pc doctor does house calls during the XMAS season) it was completely different from when I gave it to him. Which meant that I had to extricate and look for things which I had in the old pc workings. Yeah, he told me everything was in documents. That means EVERYTHING...one click and you'll have it all. Right! Except that now all my photos are in documents in a file called IMAGES and yup, when I try to open them here, try to modify them to open them here I have this awful time since they are no longer automatically placed in the wonderful photo fixing hoozie where they used to was. So, until I can figure out how to get all the guys into that hoozie for fixing photos and until I figure out what the devil it was called....ya'll won't be seeing photos from the WEST PORTICO - SORRY!

VABBE'!
